The Position: We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager / Senior Manager to join our expanding Middle Market Tax practice. This is a leadership opportunity for a seasoned public accounting professional who enjoys advising privately held businesses, ownership groups, and high-net-worth individuals on sophisticated tax planning, consulting, and compliance matters. You'll serve as a trusted advisor to clients while leading engagement teams, mentoring future leaders, and partnering closely with firm leadership on strategic client initiatives. This role offers exceptional visibility, a diverse client portfolio, and a strong long-term path toward Director and Partner-level leadership.
What You'll Do:
- Lead tax compliance and consulting engagements for privately held middle-market businesses, partnerships, S-Corporations, C-Corporations, LLCs, trusts, and high-net-worth individuals.
- Serve as the primary advisor for clients, delivering proactive tax planning and strategic business guidance.
- Review complex federal, state, and multi-state tax returns for accuracy, technical compliance, and planning opportunities.
- Advise business owners on entity structuring, business transactions, ownership changes, and tax-efficient growth strategies.
- Manage multiple client engagements while overseeing project budgets, deadlines, and deliverables.
- Research and resolve complex tax matters involving federal and state tax laws.
- Mentor, coach, and develop Tax Seniors and Staff through technical review and ongoing professional development.
- Build strong, long-term client relationships while identifying opportunities to expand advisory services.
- Collaborate with Partners on client strategy, business development initiatives, and practice growth.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting middle-market businesses and communicate planning opportunities to clients.
- Contribute to internal training, recruiting, and leadership initiatives that strengthen the firm's tax practice.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- Active CPA license required.
- 5+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience.
- Previous experience at the Manager level or demonstrated readiness to step into a Tax Manager role.
- Strong technical expertise in partnership, S-Corporation, C-Corporation, LLC, trust, and individual taxation.
- Experience serving privately held middle-market companies and business owners.
- Proven ability to manage client engagements and supervise multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Experience reviewing complex tax returns and mentoring junior professionals.
Preferred
- Master's in Taxation (MST) or related advanced degree.
- Experience with multi-state taxation and apportionment.
- Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, family offices, or closely held businesses.
- Experience with GoSystem Tax RS or comparable enterprise tax software.
- Business development experience and interest in future leadership opportunities.
